ART. 278 – IMT FROST PROTECTION VALVE THE SOLUTION FOR PREVENTING ICE FORMATION IN THE HEAT PUMP CIRCUIT UP TO 90°C
Function
The IMT frost protection valve art. 278 prevents the formation of ice in the heat pump circuit. When the temperature of the medium drops to 3°C, the water is drained, thus preventing potential damage to the system.
The thermal element is in direct contact with the water; the water is only drained when it is actually necessary. The thermal insert can be replaced. An integrated isolation valve allows the insert to be replaced without draining the system. The vacuum breaker can also be replaced if required.
The frost protection valve must be installed outdoors, where the lowest temperatures are reached in the event of malfunction or failure of the heat pump. The IMT frost protection valve must only be installed vertically with the drain pointing downwards so that the draining water can flow out freely into the open air. To ensure proper functioning, the valve must not be installed in the immediate vicinity of heat sources. It must be protected from sun, rain and snow.
The frost protection valve must not be insulated.
It is recommended to install the frost protection valve on both pipes (flow and return), so the water in both pipes can be completely drained without the risk of ice formation.
We recommend always keeping the system pressurised, even when draining, so that the valve can operate correctly.
A ground clearance of at least 15 cm must be maintained to ensure that the drainage of water from the valve is not obstructed by ice formation. The waste water must be routed properly.
Each frost protection valve must be installed at a distance of at least 10 cm from the other. Siphon effects must be avoided, otherwise draining will be prevented and the frost protection function is no longer guaranteed.
